About

Stephen Hutchins started Hutchins Stoneworks in 2016 with the vision to incorporate stone masonry, architectural carving, conservation, and sculpture into one company.

In 2004 at the age of 18, he began his career in the stone industry working for a masonry company in his native New Hampshire where he learned to lay stone for various applications. When he came to Nashville in 2013, he worked as a stone fabricator carving pool copings, wall caps, and basic fireplace surrounds out of Indiana limestone.

He got his first taste of sculpture when he spent the following summer on Whidbey Island in Washington State where he met many stone sculptors through the Freeland Art Studio that showed him countless varieties of decorative stones and their techniques for working each one. When back in Nashville, he worked as an architectural stone carver creating ornamental fireplaces and letter carvings using traditional methods.

Since launching Hutchins Stoneworks, Stephen has had the pleasure to work with some of Nashville’s finest architects, developers, and contractors. You can see his work at the Nashville City Cemetery, St. Cecilia Academy, Ensworth School, and Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage.
